Hartswood Films have acquired the television rights to The Sudden Departure of the Frasers by Louise Candlish, published by Michael Joseph in 2015.
The book tells the story of a couple who buy their dream home on a picture-perfect suburban street, before discovering the strange circumstances surrounding the previous owners’ departure.
Hartswood Films’ Head of Development Elaine Cameron is developing the book for TV, alongside a slate of new comedies and dramas.
Author Louise Candlish said: “I’m delighted that Hartswood have optioned The Sudden Departure of the Frasers. Amber Fraser is one of my favourite creations, an anti-heroine who has provoked a strong reaction in readers, and I can’t wait to see her brought to life on screen.”
Hartswood Films was founded in the 1980s by Beryl Vertue, and has an award-winning portfolio of drama, comedy and documentary films, including BBC One’s hit TV show Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
