Hartswood Films today announces that Brian Minchin will be joining Hartswood Films in September to head up drama development at their Cardiff production base, Hartswood West.

Minchin has served as Executive Producer on Doctor Who since 2013 (alongside Hartswood’s Steven Moffat), as well as developing a range of dramas for BBC Wales.

Hartswood’s Sue Vertue said: “Brian’s brilliance and enthusiasm were evident throughout his years at the BBC, and we are delighted that he is joining us at Hartswood Films to develop drama out of our Cardiff office. Hartswood Films established a base in Cardiff in 2010 and we have already produced a number of high profile productions there.  Brian’s addition to the team will help nurture the growing number of quality dramas being produced in Wales.”

Steven Moffat said: “I’ve worked very closely with Brian for the last four years, on Doctor Who, and he’s a brilliant and creative producer and a good friend. Now that I’m leaving Who to concentrate on Hartswood projects, I couldn’t be more delighted that Brian is doing the same.”

Brian Minchin said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Hartswood and very excited about being part of the future plans of such a brilliant company. I couldn’t hope to find a more talented team of Producers. Having been part of so many great shows made in Wales I’m especially pleased to be heading up the Cardiff office of Hartswood West and continuing to build on the success of drama in Wales.”

Brian Minchin has been Executive Producer of Doctor Who since 2013 , overseeing the 50th Anniversary programmes and the global success of Peter Capaldi’s seasons of Doctor Who. Alongside this, Brian has been Executive Producer and Producer on many shows including Russell T Davies’ Midsummer Night’s Dream, Being Human, The Game, and The Sarah Jane Adventures.  As part of his role on Doctor Who Brian has overseen the expansion of Doctor Who shows with new international broadcast partners and new spin-off shows. He has been responsible for the creative direction of the many franchises and platforms for Doctor Who content, from console games to orchestra tours to digital, and the continued growth of the brand around the world.

Hartswood West was established in 2010 and produced all four seasons and a special of Sherlock, as well as the BBC’s adaptation of Lady Chatterley’s Lover, all of which were filmed in the region.
